Expert English Tuition in Sutton Coldfield

Welcome to LME Academy, where we build confident, successful learners through the nationally recognised First Class Learning (FCL) English Programme. Our curriculum is designed by UK educational specialists to align perfectly with the

UK National Curriculum, supporting your child’s learning from their first words right through to their GCSE exams. We focus on developing a deep understanding of the English language, helping students master everything from phonics and spelling to advanced comprehension and essay writing.

The First Class Learning Approach to English

Our programme is built on a set of key principles designed to keep students motivated and ensure skills are embedded in long-term memory. We operate a unique spiral curriculum where skills are constantly revisited and strengthened at increasingly complex levels. The student is at the centre of everything we do ; we believe a mistake is a learning opportunity, not a problem.

Our approach ensures:

Our English Learning Pathway: From Foundation to GCSE

The FCL English programme is a structured journey that guides your child through every stage of their academic development. The modules are grouped into strands, each with a common theme.  The FCL Maths programme is a structured journey composed of different strands, including Addition & Subtraction (AS), Multiplication & Division (MD), and Fractions, Decimals & Percentages (FDP). This modular design gives us huge flexibility to design a course for each individual student.

1. Early Years: Acquiring the Tools to Read & Write (EYFS & KS1, Ages 4-7)

This stage gives students the basics of reading, writing, and spelling using a synthetic phonics approach.

2. Developing Understanding: Building Confident Readers & Writers (KS2, Ages 7-11)

This stage develops students’ comprehension skills and helps them understand how texts work so they can create their own independent pieces of writing.  As students progress, we build core arithmetic skills and introduce more complex mathematical concepts and reasoning. A child’s learning journey may look like this:

3.Use of English: Becoming Mature Readers & Writers (KS3 & GCSE, Ages 11-16)

This advanced strand prepares students for the demands of secondary school and GCSE examinations.

Targeted Support with Intervention Modules

Success in English is about combining skills. For students who need to troubleshoot specific problems, we offer supplementary intervention modules that can be used alongside the core programme:

There are lots teaching centres which offer 11 plus tuition but what FCL offers is really a very personalised tutoring plan delivered in a nurturing environment. My daughter would not have managed to get a great score in her 11 plus exam, had it not been for the dedication and mentoring of Ms Sadaf...

We are absolutely thrilled that our son has just achieved a Grade 9 in his Maths GCSE thanks to the amazing team at FCL! When he started two years ago, his confidence had dropped and his predicted grades were much lower, but FCL has completely exceeded our expectations. Not only has he achieved the top grade...

They are fantastic. The students receive full support, both in terms of the content and teaching provided by the tutors and teachers, as well as the psychological guidance and assistance offered to them. I highly recommend it to any family looking to give their children an additional opportunity and extra support.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. This is a very common issue. The FCL English programme is designed to treat English as a combination of skills that work together. While your child works through modules that will continue to develop their comprehension, the programme's structure ensures they also receive constant, targeted practice in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. The initial assessment will help us identify the specific spelling patterns they find difficult so we can address those right from the start.
The FCL English programme is designed specifically to meet the learning outcomes of the UK National Curriculum. The modules are carefully sequenced to cover the work from the correct school years, from Early Years (EYFS) right through to GCSE. Our goal is to support and enhance their school studies, filling in any gaps and giving them the confidence to excel in the classroom.
Synthetic phonics is the method of teaching reading and spelling recommended by the UK government and used in primary schools. It involves teaching children the individual letter sounds (phonemes) and then how to blend those sounds together to read a word (e.g., c-a-t becomes "cat") and segment them to spell. Our Early Vocabulary modules use this proven approach to give children the strongest possible foundation in literacy.
We understand that writing can be daunting for some children. The FCL programme builds writing skills in small, manageable steps to boost confidence. In our Developing Understanding modules (for ages 7-11), students work with a single text over 20 worksheets. They complete pre-comprehension tasks and analyse the text before moving on to planning and producing their own piece of independent writing. This structured build-up makes the final writing task feel much less intimidating and far more achievable.
Absolutely. The final strand of our programme, Use of English, is designed for secondary students and culminates in modules specifically created to prepare for GCSEs. The Understanding and Producing Texts (UPT 1 & 2) modules are revision-focused, getting students to analyse, compare, and write detailed responses to a range of non-fiction and literary texts from different eras, mirroring the demands of the GCSE exams.
The assessment is a friendly and straightforward process designed to find the perfect starting point for your child. We use a Phonic Check to test their phonic knowledge in both reading and spelling. Depending on their age and ability, this may be followed by a graded reading test and a short piece of free writing. This allows us to assess everything from pencil control and handwriting to their powers of expression, ensuring the work they begin with is challenging enough to be stimulating but easy enough to build confidence.
